Bridge-building vocabulary

A BiblioCon discussion on expectations of the Integrat Authority File (GND) in the indexing of research data.
>Due to the growth of research data in university libraries and their growing recognition as a separate publication form, the ne for high-quality indexing according to the FAIR principles is growing . Controll vocabulary should not only provide clear search entries, but also promote mutual understanding across the boundaries of disciplines and sectors and help to build bridges in the semantic web that are equally resilient for people and machines. The prerequisites for the use of authority data such as the GND have so far receiv little attention. A panel discussion at the 112th BiblioCon examin the topic from four perspectives.

First of all, the researchers themselves. They want to make their research data more visible and interconnect. Standard data is a good option for this. However, researchers lack the time and knowlge to not only reuse existing GND IDs independently and quickly, but also to create new GND data sets if necessary.

University libraries, often in union with the research data management of the respective university, form the second groupata, but as refer they are fac with the following questions: Is the GND data not only precise and reliable in terms of content, but also sufficiently flexible in the fast-moving everyday research world? And who supports the employees in the libraries in enabling researchers to contribute to the GND themselves?

The third party is the GND agencies in the network headquarters and beyond. They would have to communicate and integrate possible nes from research into the applicable GND recording rules. At the same time, in their role as GND agencies, they assume long-term responsibility for the new GND data sets. How do they prepare for these tasks qualitatively and quantitatively? What are they missing?

And finally the GND headquarters ; as the provider of the organizational and technical infrastructure, it must ensure that the itorial work complies with the rules and that the data sets are maintain on a long-term basis. These two factors determine the reliability whatsapp number database and trustworthiness of the standard data, which is their main purpose . Its interest is therefore to promote the functioning of the workflows between researchers, the GND itorial teams and agencies. What infrastructure is available, what is known about it and what else is ne?

These were the questions the panel participants ask themselves on the last day of the Hamburg BiblioCon.
