The quality of internet access sometimes remains an argument to convince customers to stay with an operator or to change. Swisscom is innovating in Switzerland by becoming the first operator in the country to launch its new Internet-box 5 on optical fiber, designed for Wi-Fi 7.
The new Internet-Box 5 Pro, now available from Swisscom, is equipped with the latest tri-band Wi-Fi 7 technology. It is offered exclusively to Swisscom customers via fibre optics. This new Wi-Fi 7 standard promises greater reliability and stability, with WLAN speeds up to three times higher than the previous generation, according to the press release from the former monopolist.
An unprecedented performance
The router, equipped with the tri-band Wi-Fi 7 standard, enables up to 18.3 Gbit/s of cumulative WLAN speed, making Swisscom customers among the first in Switzerland to benefit from this advanced technology. According to the same text, Swisscom aims to systematically offer the best products and the best WLAN, ideal for homes with many connected devices.
Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 technology operates across three frequency ranges (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and the new, low-interference 6 GHz band), delivering up to three times the speed compared to Wi-Fi 6. In addition, improved latency stockholder database optimises signal transmission, making the Internet-Box 5 Pro particularly suitable for simultaneous streaming, surfing and online gaming in highly connected homes, according to Swisscom.

Less energy-intensive, but not cheap
The Internet-Box 5 Pro incorporates an energy-saving function that reduces power consumption by up to 98%, with the ability for customers to set their own usage schedules. “Sustainability” is also taken into account in the manufacture of the housing, made of 65% recycled plastic, and in the completely plastic-free packaging.
Swisscom is offering the new Internet-Box 5 Pro free r ba leads Swisscom launches of charge to new customers subscribing to a Blue Internet L subscription via fibre optics, as well as to existing customers switching to this offer, under certain conditions. For other customers with a fibre optic connection, the device is available for purchase with a loyalty discount of 200 francs, bringing its price down to 149 francs.
